Charles M. Russell statue competition deliberations, 1957 July 14.

On 14 July 1957 in Helena a panel of experts judged a competition to produce a sculpture of Charles M. Russell. In this instance, the judges first meet with the contestant H.M. Hazzard to hear his objections to the competition's format; they conclude with a closed discussion regarding selection of the winning artist. The judges include Alex J. Ettl, president of Sculpture House in New York City, John K. Sherman, arts editor of the Minneapolis Tribune, and Charles Beil, a sculptor from Banff, Alberta, Canada.
